Flat net system
The "flat net" system is currently the most popular solution for protecting crops from hail damage thanks to its simplicity and cost-effectiveness. Its quick net opening and closing system saves both time and labor.
The system uses prestressed concrete posts spaced approximately 8 meters apart and rising around 4 meters above ground. For optimal performance, surface load should not exceed 32 square meters per post. Posts are securely anchored along the perimeter and interconnected both longitudinally and transversely with galvanized wires and ropes. Comavit plastic caps are placed on the top of each post to secure the wires and ropes, with an optional lateral locking screw for added stability.
The net is laid over the ridge wire, below the transverse rope running above. During exceptional hailstorms, the system may be subjected to excessive loads due to the limited discharge capacity of the accumulated hail. Consequently, the distance between the rows should not exceed 4 meters.
To speed up the opening and closing of the net and reduce labor costs, it is recommended the use of Comavit “Easylink” clip, whose quick-release mechanism can be triggered with a single hand.
A reinforced version of the flat net system, with an additional lower cross rope, is particularly suitable for wide planting schemes or very windy areas.
