Open gable
The system features a double sloping leaf wall built with steel poles arranged in the distinctive “Y” shape. It is especially suited for regions with strong sunlight, as the foliage shields grape clusters from sunburn. This makes it popular in California, Australia, South Africa, Israel, and Chile.
Due to the difficulty of mechanical harvesting, open gable systems are mainly used for table grape production. Operating costs are higher than traditional espalier trellis, but lower than tendone-style systems. Recently, its application has expanded to other crops, including intensive pomegranate orchards.
The Comavit open gable system uses a vertically installed Kratos or Cronos pole, to which three Ares poles are bolted together, forming the overhanging structure. The system comes with a complete assembly kit. Arms' length, inclination and height from ground are tailored to the grower’s needs.
